Eating New Orleans – Cafe Amelie

Recently, my friend and I spent a really fun afternoon in the French Quarter. We took the streetcar down there and acted like tourists. Our first stop was lunch (at 2:30). We went to Cafe Amelie, a delightful place on Royal Street.

We split an appetizer, a salad, and a sandwich. We asked our waiter for his favorite items on the menu, and these were his top picks. They definitely did not disappoint! Here’s what we ate:

AMELIE MIXED SALAD

apples, grapes, pecans, blue cheese, lemon tarragon dressing

JUMBO SHRIMP & GRITS
corn and andouille macque choux

COCHON DE LAIT

pickle, mayonnaise, ciabatta {no mayo}

Healthiness of the items I chose:

While I wouldn’t describe my menu choices as healthy, they weren’t too indulgent, and there are many other lighter options available.

Service/Willingness of the restaurant to adapt to my order:

We split everything, so they brought us extra plates. There honestly wasn’t much that we did to change it, other than leaving the mayonnaise off the sandwich, which they gladly did. Our waiter was extremely helpful and gave great recommendations.

Overall:

I loved eating in the courtyard. The food wasn’t heavy but was substantial, and we didn’t leave feeling stuffed nor unsatisfied. It was the perfect amount of delicious food that kept us full for the rest of our afternoon strolling the Quarter…

This is the perfect spot for a lunch date or a large meal with friends. I also appreciated the reasonably priced menu as well as the tasty drinks they have to offer.

If it’s a pretty day outside, this is the restaurant you should go to enjoy a great meal!!
